Third Saturday - 5/20/23
On this last Saturday of the AAPI Heritage Month celebration, we will feature adoptees from Asia who became Americans through adoption.
We are featuring an adoptive mother who will share her story of adopting a girl from China, the cultural transition her daughter went through, which includes a “cultural transformation” she went through herself plus the many bittersweet turns and twists in their journey to be together as mother and daughter.
Come to hear the poignant journey of this mother and how their unbreakable bond of a mother’s love and the child’s fate destined them to be together, including how they conquered many challenges of prejudice, biases, and cultural change at different levels.
Our adoptive mother is also an artist and illustrator. She has documented her adoption journey with art and portraits. The journey of her adopted daughter has been illustrated with vivid art and scenery, which is an exhibit to be displayed this weekend.
In the latter part of the afternoon, we will hold a Tai Chi Lesson/Demonstration with Relaxation Techniques. Illustrated by Serena Honeycutt.
This session will give you an activity to engage in to help you find spaciousness, reflection, and mental alignment to keep you in balance before leaving this event. Please register for this event here and get a FREE book, The Asian American ABCs.
