AAPI Mobile History Museum is Open Now!

AAPI Mobile History Museum is Open to the Public

Our Mobile Museum made its debut at the PVD Fest on Sept.7, 2024. It was a resounding success! More than one hundred people visited our tent to check out our exhibits. Everyone was in awe of the wealth of information we have, even with only the Chinese American and Cambodian American Journey completed among the AAPI groups for this grand opening.

We hope the exhibits we curate can bring communities together to achieve common goals.  The AAPI Mobile History Museum is a living exhibit actively adjusting to highlight different AAPI stories and communities. We seek to share the diverse yet interconnected histories of members of the AAPI community.

It was great to have Mayor Smiley visit our tent. From left to right: Jeannie Salomon, Mayor Smiley, Dr. Yoko Yamamoto, and Dr. Cindy Kim. This is our first time participating in the PVD Fest as one of the Cultural/Heritage Partners. All of our volunteers and staff love the atmosphere and the crowd. Most important of all, we got to share our stories and interconnected histories with the other communities and populations, drawing on the solidarity and strength from each other and for each other for our greater humanity!

The Chinese American Journey is organized thematically, making the long journey of Chinese Americans from the 1800s to the present easier to remember. It is also a good way to learn about the events and people involved in the past. Looking at history with a critical lens can help develop one’s critical thinking skills and see how we can use that information to make a better tomorrow in our lives.

The exhibit on the Cambodian American Journey is a living history. Some of the people photographed in the exhibit came to visit our tent on September 7. Please see the picture of them below, taken with their families. Our exhibit truly illustrates a “living history.”

AAPI Zine Library

A zine (short for “magazine” or fanzine”) is a booklet that can be made cheaply and easily. Historically, zines have been powerful tools for activism, allowing people to share their stories, express dissent, and build solidarity outside mainstream media channels.

It's beautiful to see communities come together to learn and enjoy our interconnectedness.
