Asian American Pacific Islander Month is a big deal at the Cultural Society. It was this time last year that we launched the “Uniting AAPI Community for Change” art at Washington Park Library’s outside wall. Ever since then, we have launched multiple projects to promote and uplift the voices of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in Rhode Island, including the conception of the AAPI History Museum. This year, we take this opportunity to unveil our mobile museum at this celebration!
For 2024, our theme is “Asian American Activists That Changed History”. In which we have dedicated an art of 12 past Asian American activists to be highlighted with the unveiling of our AAPI Mobile History Museum to the public. It will be an exciting time to see how all of these pieces come together!
What you can expect at the event
You may want to register for this event as soon as possible and show up at the event early because we are offering a FREE boba tea for the first 50 people to show up at site on May 4th! Free pizza and snacks for everybody! Register today to let us know how much food to order.
We are displaying our AAPI History Prototype on site. If you didn’t get a chance to stop by the public libraries to view this prototype, you can see it on that day. The prototype depicts a possible floor plan of a scale-model of the future AAPI History Museum.

The AAPI History Museum prototype is on a rotating display throughout different locations in Rhode Island

3/11/24 to 4/7/24 – Two locations at Johnson & Wales University (JWU). From 3/11 to 3/21 – It will be displayed at Friedman Center Library, located at 321 Harborside Blvd., Providence, RI. From 3/22 to 4/7 – It will be displayed at Bridge for Diversity, Equity & Social Justice, located at 259 Pine Street, Providence, RI (For JWU Community to View).

This prototype depicts a possible floor plan of a scale-model of the future AAPI History Museum (brick-and-mortar version) . We will complete a mobile version of this Museum first, using the panels shown on the floor plan. The panels will be lightweight and durable and can be stored in a trailer that can be moved from place to place to set up a mobile Museum indoors (in a multi-purpose room, gymnasium, or hallway of a school or university) or outdoors (in a parking lot, playground, or any outdoor space).

AAPI Symposium for Educators
Cultural Society is pleased to present this symposium, which offers a unique opportunity for professional development tailored specifically to ELA and social studies teachers. This event aims to provide educators with the necessary resources and tools to effectively teach Asian American history to their students in compliance with Rhode Island legislation. As of September 2023, it will be mandatory for all primary and secondary public schools to incorporate AAPI history into their curriculum. By attending this symposium, teachers will gain valuable insights and equip themselves with the knowledge needed to meet this requirement and inspire their students with a comprehensive understanding of Asian American history.
